Business Roundtable is Very Well Received

On May 17, Wilton Manors hosted a Small Business Roundtable breakfast at the Hagen Park Community Center. With approximately 100 persons participating, including all members of the City Commission, and the City's new Community Services Director, Heidi Shafran, as well as representatives from WMBA, the Oakland Park/Wilton Manors Council of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber, and Rainbow Business Coalition, everyone agreed that this was a great meeting and should be repeated. The City and organizations presented business-friendly initiatives they were pursuing. In addition, business owners were able to exchange ideas and raise questions to assist businesses during these challenging times. This was the first such business roundtable the City hosted. We are looking at having another meeting, and to provide local businesses with more opportunity to raise questions and present ideas Wilton Manors is further pursuing initiatives to support our local businesses. On June 9, I will be speaking to the OP/WM Council at a luncheon that County Commissioner and the Vice Mayor of Oakland Park. In addition, the City will be considering amending its purchasing code to afford a preference in bids and proposals received from businesses based in Broward County. This ordinance should be on our agenda at the City Commission meetings in June.
